Brief:
Condé Nast’s Glamour SA sought a bold yet elegant visual approach to their Winter Digital Edition, spotlighting a multifaceted South African personality who embodies global cultural fusion. The issue aimed to highlight Lalla Hirayama, a Japanese-South African media powerhouse, through a lens that reflects the evolving synergy between Japanese roots and South African soul.
The feature coincided with the launch of Sharing the Sun, a 13-part YouTube series hosted by Lalla that explores the deep-rooted diplomatic, cultural, and creative ties between South Africa and Japan.
I envisioned an editorial narrative that played on the duality of heritage and modernity, inspired by both Eastern traditional aesthetics and Afro-futurist elegance. The goal was to reflect Lalla’s multicultural identity and the thematic intersections between the two nations heavily influenced by street culture as well. The editoril featured 90% South African Designer pieces and accessories from ALC, MusoMaxwell, Pichuulik & K.Moraba & Collecttive to name a few.
