Brief:
Casablanca Skies was born out of a deeply personal, almost prophetic exploration I began documenting in 2013. It started as a visual and emotional response to the impact of pioneering South African sonic minds like DJ Spoko and Mujava, whose sound — rooted in Bacardi house, Pretoria street energy, and raw experimentalism — ignited a new blueprint for cultural expression.
I didn’t know then how far-reaching the project would become, but I knew this: fashion, as the visual twin of music and movement, had to be the main storytelling tool.
To extend the experience beyond the visual, I collaborated with DJEFF, a sonic architect whose sensibility matched the emotional range of the project. Together, we co-produced a remixed version of “Casablanca”, the cult classic originally composed by DJ Spoko & Mujava, for the 2020 presentation of Casablanca Skies.
This collection was featured by Netflix South Africa for Episode 5 of Jiva! Season 1, giving the project new life, new ears, and a new audience — reaffirming its relevance in the ongoing story of South African creativity. At the same time the collection was featured in an editorial for Sunday Time's Lifestyle magazine "The edit Man" together with a profile feature about myself and this long-winded collaboration that started of as a collection made originally for Pongracz.
